Nicandra physalodes is an annual plant of the family Solanaceae.
It is commonly named as the “apple of Peru” and “shoo-fly plant”.
It is a fast growing plant that reaches a height of 1.2 m.
N. physalodes’ flowers are bell-shaped and their color is usually pale blue with white core, but it can also be purple or white. They are short-lived and remain opened only for a few hours a day.
They bloom from June to October.
It is insect repellent. It removes/repels the Whitefly.
Nicandra physalodes is also used in folk medicine.
It is grown as an ornamental because of its beautiful flowers and distinctive dried fruits of it.
